Why "le", rather than "lo"?

Buenas tardes.  I'm puzzled by this quiz and answer... Le olvidé = I forgot him; lo olvidé = I forgot about meeting him, ¿no?

I assume your doubt is about why you use "lo olvidé" in this sentence:

Había quedado con Ricardo y lo olvidé.

I had arranged to meet Ricardo and I forgot about it.

The pronoun "lo" is referring to a whole idea, not a person. It's referring to "having forgotten that he had to meet him", so he forgot "all that".
