does the word usted or ustedes change the person form ?

¡Hola Britt!
"Usted" is the equivalent of "you formal singular" and it is always conjugated in the 3rd person singular ("he/she" form). For example, "usted es muy simpático".
"Ustedes" is the equivalent of "you formal plural" and it is always conjugated in the 3rd person plural ("they" form). For example, "ustedes son muy simpáticos".

yes it does, tiswhat i suspected, but I was surprised too as it is normally the 2nd person, either of singular or plural so I though it would conjugate that way but no... so a bit of adaptation is required of me.
