Both answers are correct and based on the response from Inma, the correct answers should be " El Pretérito Perfecto". Please revise this lesson to make it clear as to which answer you want maybe by prefacing each question with "In Latin America".
this lesson is very confusing

this lesson is very confusing
Hola Michelle
This specific lesson that you were testing against is the Latin American focus one, explaining that the most preferred tense for talking about general experiences is the Preterite/Simple Past. (not the perfect tense).
I can see your focus is LatAm, not Spain. For LatAm focus students, the specific Spain focus lessons are not part of their recommended lessons, and if the students find a Spain focus lesson while navigating the site (all lessons are available for everyone regardless of their focus) there is a pop up message letting you know that that lesson is not part of your focus.
This is the reason why there is no further explanation on the "hint" part as in this is used in Latin America or Spain, because it is assumed that if you choose LatAm focus, it does refer to Latin America.
I hope this clarified it.
Saludos cordiales
Inma
