Derecho and recto

Can’t “vamos a continuar derecho” be used instead of recto? And aren’t carretera and autopista the same thing?

Hola Peter,

The teacher can confirm this but "recto" really means "straight." If you are asking directions in Spain you may be told (using the imperative) "siga todo recto" meaning "go straight ahead / on."

Recto does have a meaning of "right" but it is not as a direction, it is as a term in geometry like "a 90 degree angle is a right angle."

Yes, you're right. We sometimes use "seguir/continuar derecho" with the same meaning of "continue straight". It's a bit more colloquial than "recto" but it is also correct. I added this as another possible correct answer.
