Word placement

Hello,

Re: Por la mañana desayuno a las nueve.

I have breakfast at nine in the morning.

I noticed in the above that the structure of the sentence is quite different.

Could it also be: Desayuno a las nueve por la mañana.

If yes/or no why and what would the difference in meaning.

Are there any rules/lessons concerning this?

Thank you. Nicole

Hola Nicole

The order in the English translation is different because that seems to be the most natural way to say it in English. In Spanish there is more flexibility in terms of word order. There is no specific rule.

You can say:

Por la mañana desayuno a las nueve.

Desayuno a las nueve por la mañana.

Both are fine.

I imagine, as well as in English, that we open the sentence with the part that we want to emphasise more. Inma
