Why can't I use 'yo tampoco' here?
In the A2 quiz, this question came up. I understand I should have picked A mí tampoco AND yo tampoco, but it looks like 'yo tampoco' is marked as incorrect.
Hola Amy
As Tyler explained, because the verb in this specific sentence is "gustar" and it works differently to "normal" verbs, we can't use "yo" because "yo" is not the subject in that sentence with gustar, so you need "a mí tampoco" to say: "to me neither", meaning "surprise parties don't please ME neither".
Here's a lesson on gustar [something] to remind you about its structure.
I hope it clarifies it.
Saludos
The right answer is only A mí tampoco, it doesn't have the exact same meaning as Yo tampooco. The exercise phrase is basically "A él no le gustan las fiestas sorpresa", and the answer to that would be "A mí tampoco (me gustan las fiestas sorpresa)". "Yo tampoco me gustan las fiestas " is closer to "Me neither like surprise parties". I hope this helps!! ( and I'm sorry if it isn't well written, english isn't my first language :/ )
