this was confusing
and collects the post [US: mail] the post???? I didnt know what was meant as post..... mail, postcard, letter.... right there it could of been three different words.

Post is British English for mail. So in UK post includes all mail as you said-letters, post cards etc.

Sorry to hear you were a bit confused. We add clarifications for words that may be used differently in the U.S, like we did in this case for "post" [US: mail]. Also, before doing a writing challenge we encourage students to have a first read of the whole text so you know what it's going to be about. There are also some words that we include at the introduction to look up in the dictionary in advance.
