subjunctive conjugation

the question was"

Es posible que ellas                un nuevo estillo.

the HINT: conjugate 'crear' in el presente subjuntivo.

I wrote 'crean'  but was marked incorrect - it should be 'creen'

I am sure that I am indeed wrong - but I don't understand why?!

Hola Valerie

This is a very common mistake because of the similarity between the verbs creer (to believe) and crear (to create); you can see there is only one letter that is different.

When conjugating these verbs in the present subjunctive we have different endings because one is an -ar verb and the other an -er verb, so:

CREER

Yo cre-a

Tú cre-as

Él cre-a

Nosotros cre-amos

Vosotros cre-áis

Ellos cre-an

CREAR

Yo cre-e

Tú cre-es

Él cre-e

Nosotros cre-emos

Vosotros cre-éis

Ellos cre-en

Plus, if you look at their conjugation in the present subjuntive, they coincide with the "other verb" conjugation in the present indicative!!  (apart from the yo form)

It is a bit confusing and it takes some time to get used to these two verbs, but as I said, you are not alone.

Saludos

Inma

In the present subjunctive, the -ar verbs are conjugated with -e endings (and er and ir verbs are conjugated with -a endings)
So, ellas crean in present indicative tense, but ellas creen in present subjunctive.
