In this case, when using el de, la de, los de, las de... we cannot omit the articles.
For example, if you are talking about "shoes", you need to say:
No me gustan los de tacón alto. Prefiero los de tacón bajo.
I don't like the ones with a high heel. I prefer the ones with a low heel.
You can say this:
No me gustan de tacón alto. Prefiero de tacón bajo.
BUT in this case, what you mean is you don't like high heels in general. You prefer flat shoes.
So, here, you are no longer referring to specific shoes that you have in mind or you are pointing at. The article makes the sentence more specific.
