Relationship between transitive and intransitive verbs AND direct and object pronouns

Hello and I hope you are all doing and staying well!

In English they say that becoming proficient with transitive and intransitive verbs further includes knowing how they function with direct and indirect objects.

1) I'm wondering if this applies as well in Spanish and if so

2) how can we use this and which lessons cover this particular subject.?

Thank you for your help.

Hola Nicole

I believe, and that is my own experience, that when learning a language as a foreign language there is hardly any emphasis on classification of verbs in terms of transitivity and intransitivity. The general explanation given about a verb being transitive or intransitive is that some verbs need or can be accompanied by a direct object (transitive verbs) and other don't (intransitive verbs). In my opinion, learning in advance which verbs are one type or another doesn't make you advance any quicker. Plus lots of verbs can be both, transitive and intransitive, depending on how they are used; for example, the verb caminar, just to mention a common verb, is transitive here:

Caminamos tres kilómetros hasta que llegamos al pueblo.

We walked 3 kilometres until we got to the town.

But here the same verb would be intransitive:

Yo no corro nunca, solo camino.

I never run, I only walk.

In Kwiziq we don't have any specific content, lesson or exercise, that explains at length transitive and intransitive verbs. We only have a brief explanation of them so that students know what they are if they come across the terminology.

Here is a brief explanation of:

Verbos transitivos

Verbos intransitivos

There isn't any particular lesson or list of transitive/intransitive verbs in Kwiziq. There are lessons related to direct object pronouns, though, but the focus of the lessons is on the actual usage of these direct object pronouns, not necessarily explaining about transitivity or intransitivity.

I hope this answered your question.

Un saludo

Inma
