Pescar or coger

Pescar or coger

Hi,

In English, I would say that we would normally use 'to catch' rather than 'to fish' in the sentence "Podemos pescar ...".  Would coger make sense in Spanish?

Thanks.

Pescar means to fish or to cash fish so you don't need to use coger.

Admittedly the translation given for - Podemos pescar muchos peces en este río is a bit weird!

Hola Colin

We often say "pescar" for fishing. We changed the verb in English to "catch" if that sounds more natural.

In Spanish you could also use "coger" as a general "to catch" in this sentence, but "pescar" is commonly used and it's more specific.

Saludos
