Hi, can you please help me to understand why ‘Para lo que’ means ‘given how much’ in this sentence.

Hola Jannice,
We use "para" to express surprise about something. So here:
Sacó una nota excelente para lo que ha estudiado.
He got an excellent grade given how much he studied.
we mean that we are surprised by the fact that he failed if we take into account how much he studied. We are surprised.
