Voy para la casa de mi amigo. Is the use of para in this case particular to Spain? IN Mexico and New Mexico(where I live) I'm pretty sure the sentence would use the prepossition "a" as in Voy a la piscina.

Hola John, this is actually very common in Latin America too. I am Argentinian and have been to Mexico and You hear it all the time. For example: 'Voy para allá' (I'm coming), 'Voy para el trabajo' (I'm going to work) or ¿Para dónde vas? ( Where are you going?)
