Options for saying “again”

In the exercise, an example said “No me cuentes de nuevo la misma historia.” Could one instead say “No me cuentes la misma historia otra vez.” and, if so, why? Any insights into why to use one or the other?

Hola Kent

Both "otra vez" and "de nuevo" are correct for "again" - they are interchangeable. 

"De nuevo" is slightly more formal, I would say, but only slightly.
