I thought that "Méjico" was regarded as offensive pronunciation of "México." Isn't that true, or can I use either one of them without being regarded as a vulgar person?

¿México o Méjico?
This question relates to:Spanish lesson "Conjugate tener in the imperfect tense in Spanish (El Pretérito Imperfecto)"
Asked 4 years ago
Hola Fareed,
Both spellings are correct: México and Méjico. It is recommended the spelling with the "x" to keep the most similar spelling to what was used centuries ago. The old sound /sh/ existed in Spain up to the seventeenth century, but then that sound /sh/ disappeared and turned into the "j" sound.
But, whichever spelling you use, the pronunciation is always the same (the sound is the "j" sound).
As far as we know, it is not linked to vulgarity.
Saludos,
Inma
