The reason why you need "lo" is because "escuchar" is a transitive verb so it needs a direct object pronoun, in this case "lo". "Le" is an indirect object pronoun, for example here:
Le compré un regalo bonito.
I bought him/her/you formal a nice present.
With regards to your questions in the forum, I checked and I can see all of them have been answered. There are only two of them with no reply; this is because they seem to be simply comments/rethorical questions with no need of any further comment.

Some Spaniards will indeed use "le" even when it is a direct object - when referring to or addressing male people. Purists criticise that as "leísmo", and therefore say it is a grammatical error - but in spite of that it is widely adopted, particularly in peninsular Spain [but perhaps less in Andalusia?]
