In Spanish, to express to the / in the + masculine singular noun (a + el), you use the contraction al.

to the park/in the park = A el campo (A+EL= AL) al campo

"ir a" means "to go to." There is a contraction for "a el," it's "al."

You don't say:

Nosotros preferimos ir a el campo otro día.You say:Nosotros preferimos ir al campo otro día.
