One of the options for a mini kwiz question, ""Suspendió el examen, no porque ________ sino porque ese día no se sentía bien." As I understood it, no porque could be used with either subjunctive or indicative and not change the meaning. Why isn't "no porque no iba a estudiar" an option along with the other two examples (which were subjunctive).
Iba a estudiar?

Iba a estudiar?
This question relates to:Spanish lesson "Ya que/ Puesto que/ Porque/No porque followed by indicative/subjunctive (subordinate causal clauses)"
Asked 2 years ago
Hola Connie
The two possible correct answers that offered in the drop-down menu for this question are "no estudió" (indicative) and "no estudiara" (subjunctive). The option "no iba a estudiar" is the indicative but it is the wrong tense as it is referring to a future action ("no iba a estudiar" = he wasn't going to study), when this sentence is talking about a past action (He failed the exam...)
I hope this clarified it.
Saludos
