This is a great topic.
When I teach English to Spanish speakers, I tell them to translate “Voy al mercado” as “I’m going to the market” and not “I go to the market”. I tell them that in order to use the present tense “go” they need a frequency, such as “I go to the market every Saturday”.
In other words, the Spanish present tense naturally maps onto the English present progressive tense.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks.
