can por la ciudad be replaced by en los alrededores de la ciudad?

Let me know = can we use hacer saber?

Hola Ashlyn

Literally "around the city" is "alrededor de la ciudad", however when you read the text you get the nuance of "moving within the city" - this is why we are using "por".

As per using "hacer saber" for "letting know", yes, that would be a very valid alternative so we'll add it to the possible answers: hazme saber...
