II read in the lesson that eso and ello are mostly interchangable, except when used as a direct object. In that case you must use Eso. But in some sentences where I have used eso it was marked as incorrect in favour of ello. What am i missing? I didn't see a rule that said this is when ello is correct and eso is not acceptable. Thanks

Ello vs eso
This question relates to:Spanish lesson "Spanish pronouns Ello versus eso (it/that)"
Asked 2 years ago
Hola Terri
All test questions related to this topic have a hint that makes you go for either both options or only one of them. I checked the last few tests that you did and you only got one wrong where you chose "eso" instead of "ello". In this specific test-question there is a hint saying "Use the correct word for "that" which implies more formality" which leads you to "ello". This is why you were marked wrong in this instance.
I hope this clarified it.
Un saludo
Inma
