Comparative vs superlative; more vs the most

There was a sentence in the lesson:

Dime cuál te gusta más.

Tell me which one you like the most.

Wouldn't this translate to

Tell me which one you like more. ?

How would you say the correct sentences in Spanish to translate more and the most?

Also, why do speakers of Spanish have a difficult time when learning the comparative and superlative forms in English? It's like they don't realize they exist in Spanish too.

Hola Missy

For both meanings: "Tell me which one you like the most." and "Tell me which one you like more.", in Spanish we use the same:

Dime cuál te gusta más.

We don't use the article here (el más, la más, lo más), just más.

It'd be different if we had an adjective and we had this kind of of sentence:

Yo prefiero el más oscuro.

I prefer the darkest one.

I imagine this was what you were wondering about?

We, Spanish speakers, find the comparatives and superlatives a bit tricky too in the beginning because the structures are not exactly the same. For example, in English you use a suffix that we don't use at all, e.g "he is better than me" or "she is the tallest"
