What is the difference between Camerero and Mesero? Is it something region specific or anything else?

camarero and mesero are synonyms. Depending on the region one is used more than the other. I would say that at least in Southern Spain for example you hardly hear the word mesero; camarero is what most people say.
However I think in Latin America the word mesero is more popular, but I don't know which specific Latin American countries use it more.
