This sentence from the quiz:
Estuvo fuera durante dos años. (She was away for two years.)
can't use "desde hace dos años".
You could use it if the verb was in the present tense:
Está fuera desde hace dos años.
(She has been away for two years.)
Here is our lesson for "desde hace".
