It seems to me that telling someone else that their own car works beautifully would indicate that the knowledge is shared and thus subjunctive (funcione) but that was marked incorrect. Please clarify.

Tu coche no es muy nuevo aunque ________ estupendamente.Your car is not very new although it works beautifully.(HINT: The speaker is declaring that "the car works beautifully")

It can still be considered a "declaration" in the sense that the speaker wants to make a point, a realisation on his part; therefore the indicative is appropriate.
