Why do you say......

Hi, Why do you say: “Como es usted”  instead of: “Como esta usted”!? Gracias, Arabelle

Hola Arabelle,

I can see this question is not related to this lesson where we talk about the verb "trabajar" (to work).

But, you can say both:

1. "¿Cómo es usted?" and  2."¿Cómo está usted?

They have different meanings. Sentence 1 with "es" means "What are you like?", as in what sort of person are you? e.g. amable, serio...; and sentence 2 with "está" means "How are you?" as in I am OK thanks.

I hope this clarified it for you.

Saludos

Inma
