Use of hacer

Is it common to use hacer as "gave" in this question?  Why not use diste (dar)?

Hola Sarah

Yes, both verbs "dar"(to give) and "hacer" (to make) can be used interchangeably with the noun "discurso" (speech).

Since your example is part of the conjugation of the verb "hacer", we will change the English part to make the meaning equivalence clearer.

Cordialmente
