I understand the use of the subjunctive after 'querer que' but why is this case is 'you' translates as you all (vosotros) and not you singular form? I makes sense if the statement was 'I want you all to back at my side '....

How we formulate the question in this case is:
How would you say "I want you to return to my side."?
So, we don't specify if it's referring to tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes. There's no need as we are giving different options and the only one possible using the subjunctive correctly is the one using "que volváis".
When we have questions testing on a specific conjugation we will always clarify on the hint whether we are referring to tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes.

I didn't see this particular example in the lesson, but in general, "you" in English can be translated as tú (singular informal), usted (singular formal), vosotros/as (plural informal) or ustedes (plural formal). Without context, any of these would be correct.
