Question about the formal usages in Spain and LatAm

Hi,

I was wondering if you have a lesson or if you could explain to me the formal and informal uses for Spain and LatAm.

Is ustedes formal for both?  I know that the "vosotros: form is not used in LatAm.  So what would be all the ways of being formal, i.e. sing and plural? and who does what?

Thank you.

Hola Nicole

In Spain we use:

Usted and Ustedes as formal you/you plural

Tú and Vosotros as informal you/you plural

This applies to most parts of Spain (It is a bit different in Andalucía and The Canary islands, for example)

In Latin America:

Generally:

Usted as formal you singular

Tú as informal you singular

Ustedes as formal and informal you plural

Then you also have the use of "vos" for an informal you singular, in some countries like Argentina.

We won't have content related to this in Kwiziq until we have a Latin American teacher who can write about this with more detail and more accurately, as the current teachers at Kwiziq we are not from Latin America, but Spain.
