"que no se pueden"

"que no se pueden"

Hola ...

Would it be possible to use "lo que no se pueden" as the phrase refers to "hay oportunidades" elsewhere in the sentence. I don't have much experience of using "lo que" but remember reading one of your lessons about this, and it seems to fit. If not it would be really helpful to know why.

Many Thanks

John

Hola John

You could use "lo que" but in a slightly different way. Have a look at this new sentence:

... porque hay oportunidades de negocio, lo que es bueno para todos.

... because there are business opportunities, which is good for everyone.

Here, this "lo que" is referring to the whole idea of "haber oportunidades de negocio" and "lo que" to that whole idea.

The sentence we have in the exercise is:

... porque hay oportunidades de negocioque no se pueden perder.

... because there are business opportunities which one cannot miss.

Here, this "que" is referring only to "oportunidades de negocio" It is referring to that specific thing/noun: oportunidades. You can also see that the verb is agreeing with the noun in plural "pueden".

I hope this helps,

Inma

Hola Inma,

Yes I can see what you are saying. I had actually read the original sentence as being about the specific thing i.e. opportunities, so working back from that to a bigger idea of having opportunities in general helps make it clear.

I think one of the great things about Lawless is that the "teachers" understand English to a really advanced level and can communicate it, and that makes it so much easier for us to understand what is being communicated in Spanish.

Thanks a million. John
