Los niños corren hacia sus padres.

Why isn't the personal "a" used, "hacia A sus padres"?

Hola Peter

We could say that a and hacia in this context are pretty much synonyms, but there is a little nuance differentiating them that we explain in an extra note in the lesson.

Basically, the preposition a generally indicates a final destination while with hacia we are saying towards but not always meaning that is the final destination. This is a very little nuance.
