Why does this sentence have "lo"? Doesn't dejaron todo mean they left everything?

We tend to use the emphatic pronoun "lo" when "todo" is the direct object in the sentence. It is like saying in English "They left it all."

Other sentences for example are:

Lo tienes todo pero siempre te quejas.

You have everything/ have it all but you always complain.

Yo estaba allí y lo vi todo.

I was there and I saw everything/saw it all.
