Imperative

English Imperative

The English imperative mood express commands, instructions, advice or requests. The imperative can be affirmative or negative.

For example:

  • Stand up straight!
  • Give me the details.
  • Please take a seat.
  • Don't sit down!
  • Don't play on the computer.
  • Don't tell her you're resigning yet!

In most imperatives, you (second person) is implied. However, you can also include yourself for a first person imperative (we) by using "let's" or "let's not" before the imperative.

For example

  • Let's have some lunch.
  • Let's not tell him about that yet.
Getting that for you now...
