All medieval castles were built by true geniuses of architecture and engineering. A castle was a feudal construction of a defensive nature. They were all comprised of numerous structures, each of which had a specific function. For example, the keep, which was made up of several towers, defended the castle from attacks by invaders. The walls, meanwhile, prevented attackers from climbing them and getting inside the castle. As for the battlements, these were used by the defenders to cover themselves in case of attack and due to the shape of these, they gave the impression of being crowns on the walls. Finally, the dungeons were dark and gloomy prisons where the enemies of the castle were locked up. Now you know the most important parts of medieval castles.
