The history of ceramics in Latin America is really fascinating. What amazes me above all is the production of pre-Columbian cultures, whose people were on the Andean plateau. All of them used ceramics as kitchen objects, utensils for serving food, pipes for funerary urns, censers, musical instruments, ceremonial objects, masks, toys, sculptures and other art forms. After the arrival of European navigators in the 15th and 16th centuries, ceramics in America underwent a great change, since new production methods were implemented, different fashion trends were introduced, etc. In the 20th century, artists began to experiment with unconventional materials and to defy the limitations of the environment, using ceramics as a mode of personal expression. Today, this is still an extremely popular medium for creativity and artistic expression, because it's a constantly evolving artform.
